Lady Gaga Judas new album |
It’s not the first time Lady Gaga stirs controversy with her religious song and music video. The first was ‘Alejandro’ where the Judas star appears in dubious nun outfit for which religious groups took offense. Now with ‘Judas’ out the religious groups are even more upset but singer herself didn’t intend to teach any biblical lessons in her video or song:
I don’t view the video as a religious statement,’ she told E! ‘I view it as social statement. I view it as a cultural statement. It’s a metaphor. It’s not meant to be a biblical lesson,
Big celebrities often go into religious themes to make a statement or draw attention think John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ or Madonna’s ‘Like A Prayer’ music video.
Many of the rock and metal musicians have rebelled against religion and church. Marilyn Manson has managed to go mainstream shocking the public not only with his outrageous outfits and makeup but also with his album Antichrist Superstar which sold 7 million copies. I’d say Lady Gaga is actually a softer female version of Marilyn Manson…no?
But seriously it really is just a stunt and a metaphor for being drawn to bad boys (betrayers) if I got that right from the fan comments of the vid. Not the most politically correct metaphor there is but, on the other hand, you know you can always stir some controversy with it and get more attention.
What do you think about the video and the song? Does the metaphor count or is it still a blasphemy?
